'Until' by Nick Cave

'Until' by Nick Cave

This week I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the exhibition 'Until' by Nick Cave, in the Tramway in Glasgow.

Walking into the huge room, I was in awe at the sheer number of spinners suspended from the ceiling. Some were spinning and some were still. Shapes varied - circles, tears, sunbursts. They were silver, rainbow and even tartan. But I quickly realised that some also had gun silhouettes inside. What was the message that was being communicated?

Following the path through the forest of spinners brought me into the centre of the room. There was a suspended crystal cloud, full of jewels and chandeliers, and on top, a sculptural garden featuring an amazing mix of objects. Climbing one of the four sets of stairs allowed me to gaze into the garden and look at what was inspired by the artist's question 'is there racism in heaven?'.

The final aspect of the exhibition was a series of hand-beaded murals, made from thousands of colourful beads. There were messages embedded within them.

This exhibition has just opened and is on until 25th November, which means that I'll have plenty of time to return for more visits. If you're in or around Glasgow, I'd really recommend that you make the trip over to the Southside so that you can see it for yourself.

Edit: The exhibition has now finished, but you can keep up with new exhibitions at the Tramway here.
